01 / The Fibre
Every garment we make starts as something grown, not manufactured. Cruelty free silk drawn from cocoons left to open. Long staple cotton picked by hand. Recycled polymer pulled back from waste before it ever reaches a landfill. We choose the fibre first, because nothing downstream can correct a compromise made here.
02 / The Yarn
Raw fibre becomes yarn through twist, and twist decides everything that follows. Tighter for the sportswear that has to survive a full season under floodlights. Looser and airier for a drape that has to fall correctly on a red carpet. We spec twist, ply and denier the way an engineer specs tolerance.
03 / The Loom
Some cloth we commission from handloom weavers who have worked the same drawloom for three generations. Some we run on programmable jacquard for volume that has to ship to four continents on schedule. The studio was built to do both without treating either as the lesser craft.
04 / The Cloth
This is where the studio actually lives. Concept, silhouette, colourway, print, the whole idea of a garment before a single metre is cut. We design clothes and we design ideas: a jersey that has to carry a nation, a collection that has to read from the back row, an identity that has to survive being printed on everything.
05 / The Pattern
Bespoke means the pattern is drafted to one person, then cut once. Production means the grade has to hold true from XS to 5XL across thousands of units without drifting. Our pattern room does both, and the tolerance is the same either way.
06 / The Stitch
Machine seams where strength matters. Hand needlework where it has to be felt rather than seen. Our embroidery artisans build three dimensional flowers from pearl, sequin, bead and silk thread, the kind of work that cannot be scheduled, only allowed the time it needs.
07 / The Garment
Onto a pitch at a FIFA fixture. Onto the Academy Awards red carpet. Onto an international cricket squad, a beauty queen, a boardroom, a friend of the house who simply wanted something made properly. The thread ends where it was always going.
The Studio
SJ Design Studio is a design and manufacturing house working across bespoke couture, professional sportswear and brand identity. We were built the wrong way round on purpose: most studios design and then hunt for someone to make it, and most factories make without ever having designed. We do both, in house, which is why a FIFA jersey and a hand embroidered Academy Awards gown can leave the same building in the same week.
The work runs from a single garment drafted to one body, through to graded production runs shipping to four continents. Every piece is answerable to the same standard, whatever the quantity.

The Founder
Founder & Creative Director
At twenty two she was featured by Forbes. She became the first Indian designer to create a jersey for FIFA, made for Ronaldinho under the Champions for Peace initiative with UNICEF. Her work has dressed international cricket sides, Oscar nominated talent on the Academy Awards red carpet, and a reigning Miss Belgium.
Ananya trained at Pearl Academy and built SJ Design Studio into something unusual for the Indian market: a house that designs at couture level and manufactures at international volume, under one roof. She is as comfortable specifying rPET for a forty thousand piece sportswear run as she is sitting with an embroidery artisan over a single gown.
